What to Expect
(as a Vegan in Maui)
As Maui is the second most popular Hawaiian destination right after Oahu, it welcomes millions of visitors from around the globe each year – of course, also vegans.
So if you’re worried whether Maui is vegan-friendly, rest assured. With over 5 fully vegan restaurants and over 10 vegetarian places, you will have no trouble finding vegan food. The island has jumped on the vegan food trend years ago and new places keep opening up all the time. From plant-based food trucks to higher-end kitchens, there is something for everyone. You’ll be able to try authentic Hawaiian food, trend foods, and more.
Additionally, since Hawaii is tropical, you’ll be able to explore so many fresh and delicious fruits on almost every corner of the streets. But of course, fruits are not the only thing you’d want to eat – but it’s definitely a lovely cherry on top.
Shopping for vegan alternatives at grocery stores is also relatively easy and you will find great options most of the time.
Overall, it’s safe to say that Maui is extremely vegan-friendly with lots of restaurants and options all over the island. Many of the plant-based food places will totally fulfill all your vegan fantasies!

Best Vegan Restaurants in Maui
Without further ado, let’s get into the best vegan-friendly places in Maui…
Map of Vegan Food Places in Maui, Hawaii
Earth Aloha Eats
An all-vegan food truck that is also available on the island of Oahu. Eating from food trucks really makes a Maui trip more authentic – and with this place that experience is also available to vegans! The menu has a great selection and the staff and vibes at this place are just unmatched. I totally recommend stopping at this place! We even ate here right before our flight home since it was on the way to the airport.
A’A Roots
This café in Lahaina offers a fully vegan selection of tasty trend foods. From fresh açai bowls and avocado toasts to baked goods like donuts and scones. It’s the perfect location for vegan food in Maui that everyone loves. Besides, all the ingredients used are organic & healthy – so don’t miss out on this one!
That’s A Wrap Cafe
A lovely cafe right by the Kamaole Beaches. It’s the perfect place for a little lunch break during your beach day. Even though this place isn’t fully vegan it offers so many vegan options from wraps and bowls to a customizable shake bar. The atmosphere and food are truly amazing!
Choice Health Bar
Another fully plant-based location in Maui is Choice Health Bar. With currently two opened shops, they offer a wide selection of healthy & organic food that also looks and tastes amazing. In particular, if you love sweets – e.g. chia mousse, shortbread cookies, vegan cheesecake, crumble cake, and the unique Ulu Marzipan Roll. This is definitely one of the best places to get vegan desserts in Maui.
Down to Earth Organic & Natural
This is an organic food supermarket including a hot bar buffet and a deli (similar to Whole Foods). If you’re in the area or plan on grocery shopping anyway, this place is a great option. The location is fully vegetarian and offers vegan alternatives for most of the items at the deli. It’s totally worth stopping by & browsing the selection.
Moku Roots
A colorful and trendy spot that is half bar and half restaurant. The fully plant-based menu offers something for everyone and really is everything you could ask for. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go here but it would be on our list for next time.
Surfing Monkey Shave Ice
Would you really be in Hawaii if you didn’t try authentic shaved ice? Many places on the island sell this refresher, this is just one we went to in Kihei. This place is located right by other food spots so it’s great for getting dessert after a meal!
Maui Grill Food Truck
As mentioned above, food trucks are super common and popular in Hawaii. So if you’re looking for an authentic Hawaiian experience definitely consider eating here. They’re open late and make a great choice if you’re still trying to figure out what to have for dinner. Unfortunately, they only have one vegan dish on the menu – the Aloha Tofu (tofu with ginger sauce, rice, salad, & Hawaiian sweet potato salad) – but it’s really delicious!
Nutcharee’s Authentic Thai Food
If you’re a sucker for Asian food you will love this place. They clearly state on their menu if items can be made vegan or not. I totally recommend the Pad Thai from here – it was probably the best I’ve ever had! Conveniently, this place was right next to our Airbnb, so we were able to take our food home at night.
Wailea Kitchen
Located in an area with 5-star resorts and a golf court around, this place offers stunning open-air dining with great views. Vegan options on the menu like cheesecake make this restaurant worth a visit! Definitely come here if you want to enjoy a higher-end dining experience with no lack of the Maui flair.
That wraps up the Vegan Food Guide to Maui – hopefully, you didn’t get too hungry after all this food talk!
As I mentioned above, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding plant-based food on the island – especially after reading this guide.
