What to Expect
(as a Vegan in Vienna)
As Austria’s capital, Vienna is a popular destination in Europe to not only capture historical architecture and city vibes but also spend hours on end exploring restaurants and bakeries. The city has a big culture evolving around cafes – that’s why you’ll find so many little coffee shops in the streets. Additionally, Austrian food is absolutely delicious. Therefore, Vienna’s food scene is one of the many reasons to visit, and as a vegan or vegetarian that doesn’t fall short.
Overall, Vienna is known as a great adopter of veganism due to the fully plant-based establishments popping up in and around the city. Many vegan-friendly restaurants with plant-based options on menus make traveling to Vienna as a vegan fun and exciting. You can find anything here, from traditional Austrian cuisine turned vegan to international and trendy food spots. There are no wishes left unfulfilled.
Good to know: If you happen to be in Austria in summer or early fall, keep an eye out for the Veganmania summer festival. It’s the country’s biggest street food festival that’s fully vegan! The festival has been around since 1998 and offers multiple different stalls where you can explore tasty and unique plant-based food directly in Vienna.

Best Vegan Food in Vienna
Enough talking, let’s get into the best vegan-friendly restaurants & cafes in Vienna, Austria…
Cafe Harvest
First things first, as a vegan cafe with cozy vintage vibes, Harvest is one of the must-visit places in Vienna. The unique and daily-changing menu offers vegan soul food, such as traditional Austrian dishes turned vegan. On top of that, you can find a large selection of cakes and coffees to enjoy. On the weekends, they also serve an all-vegan brunch; one of the best you can get in the city.
- selection of cakes (i.e. Sachertorte)
- roasted potatoes (Erdäpfel) with salad
- Spätzle & Gulasch, Mini-Erdäpfel
Liebling
Looking for the perfect breakfast spot? Try going to this hidden gem… We found this cafe because we stayed in the area and let me tell you, it has some of the best vegan comfort breakfast foods you can ask for! The interior is super cozy and invites for a longer stay, plus the food is absolutely delicious. Though not an all-vegan place, it’s totally worth a visit. Liebling Cafe is a breakfast-only location, so keep that in mind when planning to come here.
- nozzarella bread, coconut milk rice (porridge), banana pancakes
- separate vegan breakfast section on the menu (left)
Zina’s Eatery
You haven’t had enough of cafes yet? Let’s put Zina’s on your must-go food spot list. Another not fully vegan restaurant but with multiple clearly labeled options on their menu. The food here looks absolutely stunning and the atmosphere inside is unmatched. Overall, it fits the perfect picture when thinking of a trendy cafe in Vienna and is perfect for breakfast.
Swing Kitchen
If you haven’t heard of Swing Kitchen yet, let me introduce you. This all-vegan restaurant chain has multiple different locations around Europe and Vienna itself. Delicious comfort food like burgers and sandwiches are brought to you with an Austrian twist. It’s definitely a must-try as a vegan in Vienna and a fun location to experience the fast food dining flair.
- Vienna burger, Swiss wrap, tiramisu
Vevi Restaurant
Next, we have the fully vegan restaurant Vevi. The Vietnamese kitchen offers a very extensive menu with over 100 all-vegan and authentic dishes. Anything from delicious vegan sushi and soups to sticky rice and more. Consider this an absolute must-visit when looking for vegan food in Vienna. I personally have never seen such a huge menu, especially all vegan!
Pizzi*s and Cream
In addition to all the Viennese cafes, there are many other cuisines to explore in the city. And if we’re talking Italian, Pizzi*s and Cream wins the race in being Vienna’s very first vegan pizzeria. The atmosphere in this place gives trendy diner vibes and makes it the perfect gathering place for vegans.
Ulrich
One of the most popular hangout spots in Vienna – the cafe | restaurant | bar Ulrich. It’s not fully vegan but offers some delicious options, especially for breakfast. It’s also a great place to spend your evenings as the bar fills up with people. What many tourists don’t know, is Ulrich has a “brother” restaurant named Erich (see below). The two are located not far from one another and have very similar menus. My recommendation would go out to Ulrich though, since I like the vibes and vegan options a bit better.
- pink porridge, affogato & cappuccino
- red velvet hot chocolate, smoothie, chips & olives
Erich
As mentioned above, Erich is basically the counterpart to the restaurant Ulrich. We found it to be a great stop for lunch with avocado toast and tacos. The bar inside gives a very homey atmosphere and is a lovely spot to hang out. Though Erich doesn’t have too many vegan options, they’re still very tasty and it’s great when you’re in the area.
- avocado toast, tacos
Veganista
Need a refresher after all that hearty food? Go by Veganista to grab some fully vegan ice cream. Their flavor selection isn’t only colorful and fun but also super delicious. Definitely one of the trendiest spots in Vienna for ice cream / dessert.
Veggiezz
Back to mainly savory food; at Veggiezz you’ll find delicious burgers, bowls & more. And as the name already suggests, it’s all vegan. They also sell the famous Austrian Sachertorte and are usually mentioned in most vegan guides for Vienna – and for a good reason.
- Sachertorte & Melange (coffee)
Tolstoy
Following, we got Tolstoy Plant-Based Eatery. This all-vegan food spot has probably one of the most trendy interiors you can find in Vienna. It’s a fast-food-styled location but definitely worth a visit for some Instagram pictures in Vienna.
- Sweet Arugula Pinsa, Marinara “Meatballs”, Mac N Cheese
Velani
Would this Vienna vegan guide really be complete without listing at least one restaurant with authentic Austrian dishes? Velani offers plant-based-only options and the selection is amazing. For sure a must-go vegan location.
Superfood Deli
A trendy hotspot in all of Vienna. If you’re looking for beautifully presented (açai) bowls and beachy vacay vibes, this is the spot for you. Further, the interior here is breathtaking – surfboards, bright colors, and trendy decor. Since they have multiple stores all over the city, check out their website to see which one is closest to you.
Loving Hut
Renowned as a popular vegan franchise with locations all over the world, you’ll of course also find a Loving Hut in Vienna, Austria. It’s the perfect spot for some comfort food.
My Secret Garden
Last but certainly not least, My Secret Garden has a lovely selection of vegan food in Vienna. The vegetarian cafe has a daily menu with many plant-based options. Their coffee and tea selection is especially impressive here. Also, the name does it justice because you truly feel like you’re in a secret garden amid the city.
That concludes the best vegan food spots in Vienna!
As you can see, the options here are endless and super delicious. I definitely recommend visiting Austria’s capital as a vegan since it has so much to offer (food AND attractions). Don’t forget to save this guide for later so you can easily find Vienna’s best vegan food.
